Coolest team photo ever?
I think so.
San Jose Owls.
Fate put identical jerseys in our hands.
UBC Quidditch (the tumblr) has come out of its password-forgotten hibernation.
In the time that’s passed…
We gained tons of new, awesome members.
We had a lot of cool parties.
We became IQA official.
We got twitter. Follow us @UBCQuidditch!
We won the Pacific Northwest Tournament hosted by Western Washington University.
and we went all the way to Roseville, California for the Western Cup! It was hella dip. We made some great new friends, especially from SJSU (One Big Team!) and Riverside.
More to come.
Today is our completely unofficial year end Wreck beach bonfire, if we can get our shit together. (perhaps there will be pics if they aren’t too incriminating)
I’m kinda down, to be honest. My summer is going to be terribly un-magical.
…I’ve just realized I can never leave university ever.
One way to instantly feel old is by visiting a university campus. On a recent trip out to UBC to interview Vancouver band The Ruffled Feathers (you can read the interview here on Discorder.ca), I was confronted by some low-grade crimes against reason and good taste that had me WTFing the entire B-Line ride home.
First: Grown-ass university students who play “quidditch.” Nothing gives me worse douche-chills than the idea of adults (or even teens, for that matter) running around pretending to fly on a broom and playing a game made up in a fantasy novel for kids. I arrived on campus late in the evening, so I didn’t see any actual players, but their signs were nauseating enough.
Second: Health advice inside a vending machine. Let’s be clear, these two things do not go together.
(Follow-up note: on a subsequent trip to UBC I was treated to the horrifying spectacle of an actual quidditch match. I didn’t get any good pictures because my hands were shaking so badly with rage/laughter/queasiness)
Whoah, why all the hate? Sorry you’re horrified by our harmless fun that is so very below your taste. I think you’re a little confused though. To clarify, there’s only been one actual Quidditch match at UBC so far. You probably just witnessed our practice.
I wish you a speedy recovery from the debilitating nausea it caused you.
